Phoenix - 1901 (New Song Discovered)

Lyrics:

Counting all different ideas drifting away
Past and present, they don't matter.
Now the future's sorted out
Watch, you're moving in elliptical pattern
Think it's not what you say
What you say is way too complicated
For a minute thought I couldn't tell how to fall out.

It's twenty seconds 'til the last call, going "hey hey hey hey hey hey"
Lie down, you know it's easy like we did it all summer long
And I'll be anything you ask and more, going "hey hey hey hey hey hey"
It's not a miracle we needed, and no I wouldn't let you think so
Falling, falling, falling, falling

Girlfriend, you know your girlfriend's drifting away
Past and present, 1855-1901
Watch them build up a material tower
Think it's not gonna stay anyway
Think it's overrated
For a minute, thought I couldn't tell how to fall out

It's twenty seconds to the last call, going "hey hey hey hey hey"
Lie down, you know it's easy, like we did it all summer long
And I'll be anything you ask and more, going "hey hey hey hey hey"
It's not a miracle we needed, and no, I wouldn't let you think so
Falling, falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, falling

Meaning of the Song:
The song 1901 by the band Phoenix talks about the city of Paris during the late 19th century and the early 20th century. This song is about a boy and a girl who are in love with each other. They are on the Eifel tower, and they are trying to overcome all the problems they are having. Meantime, the guy is thinking if he should break up with her. Also, the song is interpreted as a fantasy of Paris.
Zombie - The Cranberries

(Normal Version)

(Unplugged Version)

Lyrics:

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

Another mother's breakin',
Heart is taking over.
When the vi'lence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

Message of the Song:

The song Zombie has a very profound meaning. Zombie is a song that is protesting against violence, and it was written in 1994. What this song is against with is The Troubles that Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK passed through. The Troubles started in 1916, but began having great consequences from the 1960s until 1998. These troubles were the conflict that Ireland had with the UK, for Northern Ireland (UK) to be united with the Republic of Ireland.  Even though this was an ethno – political issue, most of the people killed were civilians, and so this is also what the song Zombie is saying. People died from the war there was with the terrorist group Ireland Resistance Army, which wanted to separate the whole island of Ireland from the UK. The spark for which this song was written was when two children died in an attack of IRA in Warrington. In the lyrics we can see that this happens when The Cranberries say ““In your head, in your head, they are fighting”, and also the word “Zombie” in this song is questioning the people who are fighting, asking them if they have turned into killing machines that if they don´t have feelings. The two verses “Another Head Hangs Lowly” and “Child is Slowly Taken” come together to make an allusion to the two children dead in the IRA attack.  Another more general point of view about what this song talks about is that it laments the wars and conflicts around the world.
